With the close proximity to another country and the beauty of the four seasons that the locations offer, there are many benefits to visiting or living in these cities, and so many exciting possibilities.

The following cities have much to offer, whether for a short-term visit, or if you want to lay down your roots there:

Sault Ste. Marie, MI

Sault Ste. Maria, Michigan has a rich history, and is Michigan’s oldest city. It is even considered one of the oldest cities in the United States. This smaller city is directly across the St. Marys River from the larger Sault Ste. Maria, Ontario, Canada. The cities are connected by the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge.

If you are hoping to visit or relocate to this city, there are many things to do outdoors, including hiking, hunting, and fishing. The city is also home to the Soo Locks, which offers boat tours. There are also many historical sites, lighthouses, and events to enjoy in the area.

Burlington, VT

Burlington is the most populated city in Vermont and is approximately 45 miles from the Canadian border and 95 miles from Montreal. The University of Vermont and Champlain College are located in Burlington. The city sits on the shore of Lake Champlain and visitors and residents can enjoy walking along the lake shore and taking advantage of boating and other lake activities.

Burlington is a vibrant city made up of many unique neighborhoods, including Downtown, which offers opportunities for shopping and dining; South End, which is an artsy neighborhood; and University District, which includes the University of Vermont, among others. If you are interested in all that the city has to offer, including natural beauty, dynamic city life, and proximity to Canada and Montreal, you may want to consider a move, since there are ample Burlington houses for sale.

Niagara Falls, NY

Niagara Falls, New York may be one of the most well-known border cities. You can take in the spectacular falls from the New York side or the Ontario side. While the economy had been on the decline, the robust tourism industry is thriving due to the falls.

Niagara Falls is certainly an interesting border town. There is the Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel, not to mention all the attractions related to the falls themselves, including Niagara Falls State Park, the Maid of the Mist boat tour of the falls, and Cave of the Winds behind Bridal Veil Falls. There is also Aquarium Niagara and the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center.

There is such a variety of towns along the border between the United States and Canada with such rich histories and so many things to do and attractions to enjoy. If you are planning a visit or a move to a border town, these are three contenders to consider.
