Molbio Diagnostics IPO allotment odds revealed

Molbio Diagnostics’ initial public offering closed with strong demand, attracting over 26.85 lakh applications totaling more than ₹46,200 crore and subscribing 70.26 times overall.

The qualified institutional buyer segment recorded the highest interest, oversubscribed 186.39 times. Non-institutional investors booked their portion 49.80 times, while retail investors submitted bids 12.96 times the available shares.

Allotment odds vary sharply by investor category

Given the high demand, the likelihood of securing shares differs significantly across categories.

In the large high-net-worth individual segment, one in ten applicants will receive 238 shares—a 10% chance. Smaller HNIs face tougher odds: only one in 56 will get 252 shares, meaning a 1.78% probability. Retail investors have better prospects, with two in 21 applicants expected to receive 18 shares, or a 9.52% chance.

Refunds for unsuccessful bids will start on August 14, and shares will list on both the BSE and NSE on August 17.

Grey market premium signals strong listing expectations

The grey market premium for Molbio Diagnostics has remained at ₹155-160 per share, indicating a possible listing gain of 19-20% over the issue price. While this premium is unofficial and not a guarantee, it shows confidence in the company’s future.

The Goa-based firm focuses on point-of-care molecular diagnostics, particularly its Truenat platform. It develops portable diagnostic tools that enable testing near patients and healthcare facilities, with products used both in India and abroad.

Diagnostics companies have seen similar retail interest before. During the pandemic, many attracted strong demand, though their performance after listing varied. Some opened at high premiums but saw valuations drop within months. The current premium suggests traders expect continued growth, though past trends show early excitement doesn’t always last.

How to check allotment status

Investors can check their allotment status through several platforms. On the Bombay Stock Exchange website, they should select “Equity” as the issue type, pick Molbio Diagnostics Limited from the dropdown, and enter the required details after completing the captcha.

The National Stock Exchange offers a similar process. Users must choose “Equity & SME IPO Bid details,” select the MOLBIO symbol, then input their PAN and application number.

KFin Technologies, the registrar for the issue, also provides an online portal. Investors can visit KFin’s IPO status page, select the IPO from the dropdown, and enter either the application number, Demat account, or PAN. ASBA and non-ASBA applicants need to specify their application type before proceeding.

The registrar, a Sebi-registered entity, manages electronic processing of applications, allotment, refunds, and investor queries. It ensures compliance with timelines for crediting shares to successful applicants and issuing refunds.

Kotak Mahindra Capital Company, IIFL Capital Services, and Jefferies served as the book-running lead managers for the IPO.

High demand for shares often reflects broader market trends. For example, students advising on financial opportunities may track such IPOs to understand investor behavior.
