Spark Centre announced the new Spark Capital Access Program to help entrepreneurs become investment-ready.

Canadian startups generating at least $200,000 in revenue over the past 12 months can now apply to a fee-free program that culminates in pitches to investors on both sides of the Canada-US border. Spark Centre announced the new Spark Capital Access Program (SCAP), designed to help entrepreneurs become investment-ready and connect with early-stage capital across North America. The initiative aims to address the persistent challenge of accessing early-stage investment, a significant barrier for many founders across the country.

Requirements and Eligibility

The organization requires a market-ready product and demonstrated traction from companies based anywhere in Canada. Applicants must show active preparation for a raise and have secured or developed intellectual property where applicable. Founders must also demonstrate commitment to the process.

Eligibility is open to innovation-driven companies in health and life sciences, cleantech, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, digital media, agri-tech, agri-food, and other emerging sectors. The program is sector-agnostic, welcoming diverse ventures that meet the financial and operational criteria. Martin Yuill, the executive director of Spark Centre, emphasized that this broad scope allows for a diverse range of high-potential ventures to participate.

Support and Structure

Advisory support covers pitch deck development, financial statement and projection review, fundraising strategy, and deal room preparation. Founders receive help organizing due diligence documents, including financial records and intellectual property documentation. There are no participation fees, and Spark Centre does not take equity in participating ventures.

Investors receive access to screened Canadian companies, which helps them identify opportunities and improve the efficiency and quality of initial conversations. Between Demo Days, the organization will share curated opportunities, facilitate targeted introductions, and host investor sessions, reverse-pitch events, and sector-specific showcases. This approach ensures that investors are not overwhelmed and can focus on high-quality interactions.

Canadian investors may refer portfolio companies preparing for future financing rounds into the program for fundraising support and connections to a broader network of Canadian and US investors. The initiative combines preparation, curation, and ongoing investor engagement to make each interaction more productive for both parties. Karan Pandya, the SCAP program manager, noted that this structure is intended to maximize the value of every meeting and introduction.

Next Steps

The inaugural cohort is expected to include five Canadian companies. These ventures will take part in the first virtual SCAP Demo Day planned for October 2026 after screening and advisory preparation. Curated Demo Days will be hosted regularly thereafter, creating a sustainable pipeline for deal flow.

Applications are open now to eligible ventures, investors, incubators, and innovation centres invited to connect with the SCAP team. The structure suggests a long-term pipeline for Canadian deal flow rather than a one-time event, which could change how startups approach their fundraising cycles if the model proves successful. Spark Centre is actively seeking partners to help integrate this program into the broader innovation ecosystem.
