EPFO launches service history feature for PF accounts

Employees who have switched jobs several times often find that their old Provident Fund (PF) accounts or employment details are not linked to their Universal Account Number (UAN), creating hurdles when they later need to withdraw, transfer, or claim pension benefits.

The update simplifies tracking.

New EPFO service history feature lets workers view complete employment records

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched a service history feature on its upgraded Unified Member Portal. The tool aggregates the entire employment timeline attached to a user’s UAN, displaying both previous and current employer information, start and end dates of each job, and records for the EPF and Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS).

This addition targets workers with multiple career moves, giving them a single view to verify whether all prior PF accounts and job periods are correctly reflected in the system. By checking the history, users can spot missing links before submitting withdrawal or transfer requests.

To access the feature, members log in to the portal with their UAN and password, complete an OTP verification on a registered mobile number, and go to the service history section. The portal allows users to download the displayed record for personal reference.

Key data points displayed include employer names, dates of joining and leaving, EPF and EPS membership status, and any gaps in employment. Users are advised to confirm that personal and service details are accurate, as errors may affect future pension eligibility.

How to address missing or incorrect PF entries

If an old PF account does not appear in the history, the first step is to contact the former employer for verification of the member ID or previous UAN. Employers can update or retrieve missing records through the EPFO Employer Portal.

Employees may also use EPFO’s Aadhaar‑based e‑PRAAPTI platform to trace unlinked PF accounts and request their integration with the current UAN. Correcting these records helps streamline automatic PF transfers, withdrawal processes, and pension eligibility determinations.

Having a complete record reduces reliance on physical documents and lessens delays that often accompany PF‑related transactions.

From a broader perspective, the feature could improve compliance for both employees and employers, as it encourages timely updates of contribution records and may reduce disputes over missing funds. For workers nearing retirement, a clear record simplifies the verification process required for pension claims.

Employees are reminded to review their service history regularly, especially after a job change, to ensure that all entries are up‑to‑date. The portal’s download option provides a convenient way to keep a personal copy for future reference.

Overall, the EPFO service history feature aims to make PF management more transparent and less cumbersome, supporting smoother transitions between jobs and safeguarding workers’ retirement savings.
