Walmart OnePay adds Apple Pay wallet support

OnePay is expanding its mobile wallet compatibility by adding Apple Pay support for its credit cards, a move that aligns with Walmart‘s broader push toward contactless payments.

OnePay enables Apple Pay for its credit line

The financial‑services arm, majority‑owned by Walmart, announced that holders of the OnePay CashRewards credit card can now add the card to the Apple Wallet and pay wherever Apple Pay is accepted. The debit version has been compatible since 2022, but this is the first time the credit product joins the ecosystem.

Adi Sharma, a senior executive at OnePay, said in a statement that the addition brings “the same speed and simplicity” to the entire card lineup.

Later in the year, the OnePay Builder Card, aimed at consumers building credit histories, will also become eligible for the same mobile‑wallet functionality. Both cards are issued by Synchrony Bank, with the credit line having launched in 2025.

Cards loaded into the Apple Wallet can be used at contactless point‑of‑sale terminals and on websites that accept Apple Pay.

Walmart begins nationwide contactless rollout

On Friday, Walmart confirmed that its U.S. locations will start accepting contactless payments this Monday, with full coverage expected by the end of 2026. The company has historically resisted contactless options, even during the pandemic surge in digital payments.

According to a memo seen by a technology news site, Arkansas stores are slated to be the first to enable the feature this week, while the final group of states will activate the system on October 12. The retailer declined to verify the memo’s details.

Google says its Google Pay wallet will be usable at any Walmart store that supports contactless transactions, mirroring the Apple integration.

In Canada, the retailer has offered Apple Pay and Google Pay support for debit cards since 2020, indicating a longer history of mobile‑wallet acceptance north of the border.

Other payment options remain available

Beyond the new mobile wallets, Walmart continues to promote its own QR‑code based app, Walmart Pay, which launched in December 2015. The service is still offered alongside the newer contactless methods.

Venture‑capital firm Ribbit Capital co‑owns OnePay with the retailer.

OnePay cards can be added to the Apple Wallet and used at any terminal that reads contactless signals, as well as on participating e‑commerce sites.
